Video doorbells have become increasingly popular, enhancing home security and becoming a must-have for homeowners focused on safety. Ring has played a major role in this growth by offering a range of features and price points, including two-way audio, motion detection, and mobile app access to your front porch. However, some users are returning their devices, in part due to the new subscription costs implemented by the Amazon-owned brand for certain features.

The market has seen new developments, with a variety of alternatives to Ring now available. Competitors often provide benefits like local storage, compatibility with popular smart home platforms such as Google Home and Apple HomeKit, and full access to features without the need for monthly payments. A range of budget-friendly options has emerged as well. Based on user reviews and expert advice, let’s take a look at some alternative doorbell cameras that could be worth your consideration.

Google Nest Doorbell (3rd Gen)

As a leader in consumer technology, Google’s Nest Doorbell line is packed with features. Available in both battery-powered and wired versions, the battery option stands out as a solid investment. Unlike many competitors that only offer HD video, this doorbell provides stunning 2K video both day and night.

A notable feature of Google’s doorbell is its integration with Gemini, Google’s AI technology. This enables voice assistant features and helps the camera distinguish between people, animals, and other moving objects, reducing false alarms. It works seamlessly within the Google Home ecosystem, making it an excellent alternative to Ring, especially for existing Google users.

The Nest Doorbell is priced at $180 for either option, making it comparable to Ring’s higher-end models. However, Google often runs promotions, and it enjoys an 87% customer satisfaction rating on Amazon.

Blink Video Doorbell (2nd Gen)

Also owned by Amazon, Blink offers the second-generation Blink Video Doorbell, which is one of the more affordable options at $60. Discounts often bring this price down to about $30. It is recognized for its easy and straightforward installation, either wired or wire-free.

The Blink Video Doorbell delivers excellent value, including features usually found in more expensive models. It integrates well with Alexa devices, offers a wide field of view for spotting deliveries, sends motion alerts to your phone, and allows for two-way audio with visitors.

While the Blink Video Doorbell is a good standalone device, it does need a sync module, which isn’t included. This module is necessary to connect to the Blink app. However, a package offering both the doorbell and the sync module is available for $70.

Arlo Video Doorbell 2K

Arlo is known for its home security products, and its Video Doorbell 2K is a budget-friendly option at $50. This doorbell features 2K video along with infrared night vision for enhanced security after dark. It can be set up wirelessly or connected to existing electrical wiring.

However, some advanced features require a monthly subscription, including cloud video storage and custom notifications. Nevertheless, it has received nearly 5,500 reviews on Amazon, with 86% positive feedback. Arlo also provides a 30-day trial for its subscription service, Arlo Secure.

Users have praised the Video Doorbell 2K for its easy installation, good image quality, and user-friendly app. It remains functional without a subscription, which is reasonably priced at $8 per month if you want extra features.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340

Eufy may not be as widely recognized as Ring or Google, but its Video Doorbell E340 stands out with a distinctive dual-lens design. One camera faces forward, while another angles downward, making it easier to monitor package deliveries. This feature makes it a great option for families or businesses that receive many parcels.

Retailing for $150, the E340 offers tough competition against various Ring products, though it comes in higher than entry-level options. Eufy provides multiple accessory packages at various price points, and a 2-pack of E340s is available for those monitoring multiple entry points.

Despite its mid-range pricing, Eufy promotes the E340 as a perfect choice for those wanting to avoid subscription fees. It has 8GB of built-in storage, eliminating the need for monthly cloud services, and it can be expanded with add-ons like the Eufy HomeBase 3 for users looking to build a full security system.

How we selected these Ring camera alternatives

Our process of selecting alternatives to the Ring camera began with expert consultations. BGR conducted hands-on reviews of various smart home devices, focusing on the Google Nest Doorbell and Blink Video Doorbell as strong contenders for replacing Ring.

For less popular doorbell cameras, we relied on user feedback from Amazon. We prioritized well-known brands offering models with a high percentage of positive reviews. In both cases, we aimed for products that offered features similar to those found in the Ring lineup.
